Members of the Scotland County Elementary Student Council present can tabs collected for the Ronald mcDonald House to MRTA Region 3 Community Service Chairperson, Rhonda McBee.

The students, parents and the Scotland County community came together to collect aluminum tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Missouri for the past 3 months at the elementary building. The collection yielded more than 20 gallon containers of aluminum tabs which weighed approximately 25 pounds.

A longtime supporter of the charity, Ann Luther, was the inspiration for the project. The Scotland County Elementary Student Council teamed up with the local retired teachers’ association to encourage the community to collect and donate aluminum tabs. The Scotland County Retired Teachers’ Association is part of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA) whose motto is TO SERVE, NOT TO BE SERVED.  Collecting can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, collecting and donating food and money to help with local needs (show Me Hunger Project) and collecting food labels for the local schools are the community service project encouraged by MRTA.
