The Soldier in the Field will be moving to a new field next week. Dr. Larry Wiggins reported the historic Barnett Statue will be relocated from its current home south of Memphis, to the Downing House Museum on Thursday, April 27th.

The efforts will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m., rain or shine, with the process to be completed in three sections, including the granite base, the column and the top. All combined the World War I memorial weighs approximately 14,000 pounds.

The disassembly and transport will be performed by Awerkamp Machine Company of Quincy, IL.

Wiggins added that volunteer labor is welcome and anyone interested in helping can contact him or Carl Trueeblood.
