Scotland County senior Ryan Slaughter punched his ticket for a return trip to the Missouri Class 1 state golf championship event with a top five finish at the Class 1 Sectional 4 tournament held at Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe.
Slaughter carded a six-over-par 78 to finish fifth overall. Jeff Roberts Simmons of Gallatin carded a three-under-par 69 to win the event. Jeffrey Hamilton of Marceline and Logan Smith of La Plata tied for second with scores of 73 and Tristen Dye of Mid-Buchanan was fourth with a 76.
Slaughter’s teammate Ian See will not be making the return trip to state, as he narrowly missed the cut for the top 15. See finished tied for 20th overall with a round of 90.
Marceline won the team sectional title with a score of 325. Gallatin also will advance as a team after finishing second with a 332.
Scotland County finished fifth overall with a 366. Griffan Kerkmann shot a 97, while Conner Harrison carded a 101 and Chase Cook shot a 112.
Mid-Buchanan was third with a 356 while Stanberry finished fourth with a 356. Rounding out the scores were La Plata (393), Milan (420) and Schuyler County (455).
Other golfers advancing to the state tourney from the event included Seth Brown of Worth County and Makenzie Fessler of Marceline with 79s; Cole Craig of Stanberry and Zachary Maggert of St. Joseph Christian Academy with 81s; Jordan Elam of Marceline and Jase Hughes of Rock Port with 83s; Logan Burns of Gallatin and Mitchell Carroll of Stanberry with 84s; Dylan Marrs of Mound City with a 85; Michael Wilhite of St. Joseph Christian Academy with a 86; Davis Washburn of King City with a 87; and Gabriel Cole of Gallatin, Hayden Ellison of Mid-Buchanan and Ryan McClellan of Worth County with 88s.
The Class 1 state tourney is scheduled for May 15-16 at the Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar.
