Parker Triplett puts up the shot over the Kirksville defender while Kade Richmond moves into rebounding position.

Scotland County had high hopes of starting off the New Year with a bang, but the Tigers’ upset bid lasted just one quarter in the opening round of the Highland Tournament as Kirksville dominated the final three quarters en route to a 85-39 victory.

Scotland County, the #7 seed in the bracket, held its own against the #2 ranked Kirksville squad, trailing just 16-14 at the end of the first period.

Will Fromm poured in 12 first quarter points to keep SCR-I close in the opening eight minutes.

Unfortunately, Scotland County had no answer for the Tigers’ Noah Copeland. Copeland led a second quarter Kirksville onslaught, scoring 15 points to single handedly outscore SCR-I and help produce a 45-25 halftime lead for Kirksville.

Kirksville did not slow down in the third quarter, adding to the huge lead with a 29-7 run that produced a running clock in the game’s final eight minutes.

Copeland finished with 19 points to lead all scorers.

With the loss, Scotland County dropped to 2-7 on the year and fell into the consolation side of the tourney bracket with a second round matchup versus the #6 seed Highland. Fromm led SCR-I in scoring with 17 points and Jace Morrow finished with seven.
