Morgan Blessing puts the bunt down during softball action Tuesday night versus Schuyler County.

Scotland County’s Kaitlyn McMinn turned in one of her best games of the season Tuesday versus Schuyler County and it was only fitting considering it was senior night in Memphis. Unfortunately for McMinn and fellow senior Katie Feeney, it was a Schuyler County upperclassman who celebrated in the end as the Rams Chloe Buckallew struck out 15 hitters in a 1-0 Schuyler County victory.

McMinn matched Buckallew early on. She fanned two in the first inning and allowed just one base runner in the first three innings.

Scotland County actually had more scoring opportunities early on. Buckallew worked around a one-out single by Hannah Feeney in the first inning. She got out of trouble in the third after Baileigh Phillips led off with a hit and Hannah Feeney walked by striking out Hanna Anders to end the threat.

Kelsey Cohagen singled to lead off the top of the fourth inning for the Rams. She stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice fly before coming in to score on another sacrifice fly to give Schuyler County the 1-0 lead.

SCR-I threatened again in the fifth inning with a  two-out rally. Morgan Blessing and Katie Feeney singled and Hannah Feeney reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases, but Buckallew was again able to get out of trouble.

McMinn ended up taking the loss despite allowing just one run on five hits and no walks while striking out four.

Buckallew held SCR-I to just four hits and one walk while striking out 15 in the complete game shutout.

Scotland County fell to 7-8 on the season and 3-4 in the Lewis & Clark Conference.
