Members of the Scotland County High School Quiz Bowl team advanced to the semifinal round of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 270 to 230 win over North Shelby High School on Saturday, February 11. This match was the second in a seven-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC, WGEM FOX and WGEM News Talk FM 105.1.
Members of the Scotland County team are Stephen Terrill, Sadie Davis, Elijah Cooley, Adam Slayton, Evan Hite, Jacob Kapfer and Andrew Ebeling.
The next match between Clark Co. High School and Hannibal High School will air Saturday February 18, at 6:30 p.m. on WGEM NBC, and Sunday, February 19, at 9:00 p.m. WGEM FOX TV and again at 10:30 p.m. on WGEM NBC. In addition, the match will air on WGEM News Talk FM 105.1 Saturday, February 18, at 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 19, at 7:30 a.m.
Members of the Clark County High School include: Allison Acklie, Tony Corvaia, Blain Lindsey, John Dever, Calissa Cormier, and Joseph Doty. The Clark County team is coached by John Reardon and Lance Smith.
Hannibal High School team members include: Pranati Parikh, Gavin Booth, Donovan Mefford, Caleb Wilson, Ruby Roisum, and Jessica Stinson. The Hannibal team is coached by Amy Sternke.
The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the tri-state region competing in 15 matches. The host of this year’s tournament is WGEM Sports Director Ben Marth. The series is co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.
Judges for the 2017 Academic Challenge are JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mike Terry, interim dean of arts and sciences; and Dr. Randy Wolfmeyer, assistant professor of engineering. The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, marketing director at WGEM.
