A Rutledge area man is behind bars on a $100,000 bond following his arrest on Friday, February 1st on six felony sexual abuse charges related to a victim under the age of 12.

Anthony R. Barrett, 40, was taken into custody by the Scotland County Sheriff’s office following a joint investigation with the State Technical Assistance Team, and the Scotland County Office of the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division.

Scotland County Prosecuting Attorney April Wilson has charged Barrett with two counts of felony rape in the first degree, two counts of felony sodomy in the first degree and two counts of class B felony  child molestation in the second degree.

According to court documents the alleged incidents occurred between May 1 and October 31, 2018.

Barrett is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash only bond.

The court documents state that “An individual convicted and sentenced for this offense is required to be sentenced to life imprisonment without eligibility for probation and parole until the defendant has served 30 years.”

Barrett was arraigned in Scotland County Court on Tuesday, February 4th, appearing before Judge Kim Nicoli. A criminal setting hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 19th.
