The Scotland County Rural Fire Board hosted its annual meeting January 12, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Fire Station with seven board members and three firemen present.
Election of rural board members was one of the topics discussed. Board members voted in new board members, Jared Shelley and Bryan Burkholder to replace existing board members, George Frederick and Willis Martin, vacating their positions.
Board chairman Freddie Henderson reported inquiring into a Tax Supported District Levy. This levy would let the taxpayers pay for their fire dues thru their property taxes. The board voted to start checking into the process whether to pursue this levy or not.
If a property owner is not a member of the Scotland County Rural Fire Corporation, the fire department would not respond to a fire call. If they would like to be added, they can call Rhonda at 660.465.8528 or email email@example.com with any questions.
“We highly recommend that the property owners notify us with any renters living on their property or changes in ownership, so the information can be changed or added to the fire book,” said Henderson. “It’s very critical to have the correct information, so if a fire call was issued, the fire department would respond without any confusion or not respond at all.”
