Ronald P. “Ronnie” Martin, 82, of Eureka, formerly of Downing, Mo., passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.

He was born March 23, 1934, in Iowa, to Harry and Vivian (Paisley) Martin. He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Jackson-Sayre on Feb. 9, 1985 in Downing, Mo. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2016. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Drinkall, Francis Martin and Bernie Martin and sisters, Imogene Drinkall, Annalee Welsh, an infant sister, and great-grandson, Jaxon Burger.

Ronnie is survived by his two step-children, Linda Ruder of Eureka and Stan (Mary) Sayre of Metamora; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Nelson of Columbia City, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War

He and his wife, Roberta, lived on a farm in Downing until moving to Eureka to be closer to family in July 2008. While in Downing, he worked as a farmer and also served as the trustee for the Downing Bank. Together, they enjoyed managing the concessions for the Downing Appreciation Days for several years and were also involved with Meals on Wheels in Downing.

Ronnie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Downing, Mo. where he served as an elder. He also attended Rock Creek Church in Congerville, IL and was a member of the Gideon’s International.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Downing, Mo., with Pastor Phil Bachman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery in Downing, Mo.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Downing, Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, or to Unity Point Hospice Care in Peoria.
