Paul Turner McCune, 90 of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
The son of Oscar Dayton and Mary Alice (Clarkson) McCune, he was born on March 7, 1927 in rural Downing, Missouri. He was a graduate of the Downing High School in Downing, Missouri. On November 21, 1945 in Queen City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Dee Lois Byrn and to this union four children were born, twins, Paul D. and Jeanine, Paulette and Lynette.
Survivors include his three daughters, Jeanine Dyhouse and husband, Jim of Kirksville, Missouri, Paulette Gifford and husband, Stanley of Kirksville, Missouri and Lynette McCuskey and husband, Gary of Kirksville, Missouri; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Kay Reno and husband, Carl of Ottumwa, Iowa and Karen Gardner of Kirksville, Missouri; great-nieces and nephews and other family members. Paul was the patriarch of five generations.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dee Lois on May 4, 2017; one son, Paul D. McCune in infancy; one great-grandson in infancy; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Charles Dawson; and one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Helen McCune.
Paul entered in the United States Army in January 1946 in Ft. Leonard, Missouri and served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged on January 19, 1947. Following his military tour, he came home and began farming. He also worked as a stock clerk and a truck driver.
Paul was baptized into the Christian faith at the age of 14. While he resided in Downing, Missouri, he was a member of the Downing Christian Church. Later as they made their home in Kirksville, Missouri, he was a member of the Meadow Brook Christian Church in Kirksville, Missouri and attended the Kirksville Nazarene Church in Kirksville, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Mike Askew, Pastor of the Kirksville Nazarene Church in Kirksville, Missouri officiating. Music will be provided by pianist, Tammy Johnson and music leader, Jim Dyhouse. Memorials have been established for the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri or to the Kirksville Nazarene Church in Kirksville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating.
