Two local anglers got their 2019 fishing season off to a top start. Bruce Parsons and Brandon Orton brought home first place in the Ozark Mountain Team Trail event held at Grand Lake in Oklahoma on April 13th.
The Scotland County duo boated 21.19 total pounds of largemouth bass to best the 100-boat field and claim the top prize of $5,000 cash in addition to a new Garmin Echo Map Plus transducer and chartplotter.
The local angler hit it big in the third event of the 2019 OMTT season, narrowly outdistancing second place finishers Marty Bohlke,Jr., and Dan Brueggemann who boated a five-fish limit of 21.04 pounds. Five teams topped the 20 pound mark overall, with 20 of the top 29 teams reaching the five fish limit.
The victory thrust Parsons and Orton into the mix for a berth in the 2019 OMTT Championship, a two-day tournament October 26-27 at the Lake of the Ozarks. The top 50 teams qualify for the event with the top finisher taking home a new Ranger/Mercury boat and motor combination.
Parsons and Orton set 15th overall in the standings after three events. They did not participate in the 2019 opener at Table Rock Lake on March 9th. They finished 46th overall at the Lake of the Ozark Tournament held March 30th, boating a five fish limit of 14.4 pounds.
Justin Delk and Brandon Rummel, who finished third at the Grand Lake event, are currently atop the OMTT leader board after three events. They finished 10th at the Lake of the Ozarks and 17th at the opener at Table Rock.
The regular season features one final tournament May 11th at Bull Shoals.
This is the 13th season for the Ozark Mountain Team Trail, which has solidified itself in the fishing industry by paying back 100% of all entry fee money to its anglers, guaranteeing $5000 at each event to the winners.
This season teams also finishing high enough in the group’s angler of the year standings will win $1000 cash and have the opportunity to qualify for the 2019 Bassmaster Classic.
