Micah Cooley beats the Fayette defense for two points.

Points were few and far between for Scotland County on Friday night in Memphis yet the Lady Tigers still had a chance to salvage a key conference contest versus Fayette after Micah Cooley sank two free throws to force overtime. Unfortunately SCR-I never scored in the extra four minutes and Fayette escaped with a 50-40 win to dampen the SCR-I Courtwarming festivities.

The Lady Tigers did not get on the board until 2:49 left in the first period when Cooley scored in the paint. Despite the slow start, SCR-I built a lead behind three-pointers by Madie Bondurant and Hannah Feeney. Bondurant connected again from behind the arc to beat the buzzer and give SCR-I a 11-4 lead.

SCR-I continued to hold the Falcons at bay in the second period. Katie Feeney connected on a three-pointer and Khloe Hamlin and Emiley Dial added field goals to give the home team a 23-16 lead at the half.

Bondurant connected on a pair of three-pointers in the third period as SCR-I maintained a 36-30 advantage.

Katie Feeney scored on a drive to the rim that made the score 38-32 with 4:59 left to play. The SCR-I offense then went silent, allowing Fayette to pull ahead 40-38 before Cooley sank two clutch free throws in the final seconds to force overtime.

The offensive woes continued for SCR-I as the Lady Tigers went scoreless in the extra four minutes of play, converting just one field goal in the game’s final 12 minutes as Fayette went on to the 50-40 win.

Scotland County fell to 11-5 with the defeat and 2-1 in Lewis & Clark Conference play. Bondurant finished with 12 points to lead SCR-I in scoring.
