The Board of the City of Downing convened at 6:00 p.m. on May 1, 2017 with Mayor Alan Garrett presiding. Present were Aldermen Bill Anderson, Ray Bange, and Gene Bruner; City Clerk, Carol Dryden; and Water/Waste Water operator Larry Smith.

Copies of the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting, water/waste water report, deposits & disbursements and account balances were given to those present.

Also, copies of the ordinance that explains the duties of the Aldermen were given to each Board member.

Mayor Alan Garrett called the meeting to order,

Ray Bange and Gene Bruner were sworn in as Aldermen. And then the board appointed Gene Bruner as the new Board President.

A motion to approve the agenda was made by Bill Anderson and seconded by Ray Bange and carried unanimously.

A motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting was made by Bill Anderson and seconded by Gene Bruner and carried unanimously.

A motion to approve the bills was made by Gene Bruner and seconded by Bill Anderson and carried unanimously.

Visitors: Mary Culler from DNR came to speak to the board concerning our waste water, She presented the board with several ideas to improve the way to handle the discharge.

Water/Waste Water Report: Lagoon is off so we have no discharge at this time.

Street Maintenance: Larry has been working on the roads to get them ready for new gravel. He has already received some gravel and will be getting more delivered soon.

Old or Unfinished Business: Bill Anderson made a motion to pay Levi Woollums to mow the city properties. Ray Bange seconded and was carried unanimously.

New Business: Welcomed our new Board members.

Complaints: John Steenhoek wanted to report that he has what appears to be waste water coming onto his property. Larry will look into this right away.

Positive thoughts: New Board members are happy to be on the board and look forward to what they can accomplish in the next two years.

A motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. was made by Bill Anderson and seconded by Ray Bange and carried unanimously.
