A Memphis man sustained serious injuries when his motorcycle struck a deer Wednesday evening in rural Scotland County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Samuel R. Gottman, 38, was eastbound on County Road 558, two miles northwest of Memphis, when a deer ran into the roadway into the path of the 1980 Honda motorcycle driven by Gottman. He was transported by private vehicle to Scotland County Hospital and then flown by Air Evac helicopter to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by a friend of the driver.
