If you ask someone on Medicare what their greatest problem or concern is, the answer is sure to be healthcare expenses and understanding their Medicare choices.  Heartland RSVP’s Medicare Counseling Program helps people get the facts, so that they can make informed choices.

It’s that time of year again for all those enrolled in Medicare Part D to decide to stay with their current plan if they’re satisfied with its coverage and the changes for next year, or shop around for a plan that better fits their needs. Remember that plans change each year, so there might be a plan available for 2016 that would be more cost effective.  The annual enrollment period is October 15 to December 7.

Medicare beneficiaries in need of comparing/enrolling in a Prescription Drug Plan for 2016 can attend free enrollment and education events being held in select counties in Northeast Missouri.  These events are sponsored by Heartland RSVP and NEMO Area Agency on Aging,   Trained counselors will be available at the sites listed below.  Please call now to make an appointment.

Oct 29 – Knox County Council on Aging – Edina – 660-397-2296

Nov 3 & Nov 19 – La Plata Library – La Plata – 660-332-4945

Nov 5 – Clark County Council on Aging – Kahoka – 660-727-2400

Nov 17 – Senior Center of Macon – Macon – 660-385-6411

In addition to these dates, volunteers are available five days a week (by appointment), at the Heartland RSVP office in Kirksville.  You can make an appointment by calling 660-665-8314.  Help is also available by phone.

To provide the best assistance, volunteers will need a list of medications, prescribed dosage the individual takes, name of preferred pharmacy, Medicare card information and any notices from an existing plan (i.e., Annual Notice of Change), Social Security, or Medicare about changes to costs and coverage for next year.

Heartland RSVP volunteers will be available to answer your Medicare questions and/or help you enroll in a Drug Plan for 2016.   For more information, contact Heartland RSVP at 1-600-665-8314, or Northeast Area Agency on Aging (NEMO AAA) at 1-800-664-6338.
