It took an inning for Scotland County to stretch its legs out after the long bus ride to Westran, but once the Lady Tigers started running they didn’t stop as SCR-I walloped Westran 17-0 on Thursday night for the team’s second straight Lewis & Clark Conference victory.
Ashleigh Creek doubled and Kaylyn Anders walked but SCR-I was unable to plate a run in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Tigers made up for it in their second at bat. With one out, Abby Blessing walked and stole second base and Julie Long reached on an error allowing the first run of the contest to score. Haley Darcy followed with an infield single. After a fielder’s choice by Katie Feeney, the hot-hitting Madie Bondurant delivered an RBI single. Creek mashed her second double of the night to extend the lead to 4-0.
Westran mounted its only threat in the third inning when SCR-I worked around a couple of walks when Feeney gunned down the runner trying to steal.
Darcy opened the fourth inning with a triple to right field. She scored on a base hit by Feeney, who stole second and third base and scored on a base hit by Creek. After a base hit by Anders, Khloe Hamlin reached on an error, allowing pinch runner Kilee Bradley-Robinson to cross the plate. Two more runs scored when Kaitlyn McMinn reached on an error and an errant throw. Westran’s fourth error of the frame allowed McMinn to score and Abby Blessing to move into scoring position for an RBI groundout by Julie Long to extend the lead to 11-0.
In the fifth, a one-out hit by Bondurant was followed by walks to Creek and Anders to load the bases. After a sacrifice fly by Hamlin, McMinn reached on an error that loaded the bases. Blessing and Long walked to force in runs before Darcy finished off a big day at the plate with a two-run double to make the final margin 17-0.
Creek improved to 2-2 on the year with the complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven in five innings of work.
She also was perfect at the plate going 3-3 with a pair of doubles, two walks and three RBIs. Darcy was 3-4 with a double and a triple, scored twice and drove in two runs while Bondurant went 2-4 with a pair of runs scored.
SCR-I is 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in Lewis & Clark Conference play.
