Even after more than two hours on a bus to get to Harrisburg on Thursday night, the Scotland County softball team came out swinging, jumping on the Lady Bulldogs for three runs in the top of the first. But the real damage came late, as SCR-I scored 12 times in the sixth en route to a 17-0 win as Scotland County remains unbeaten in conference play.
Walks to Kaylyn Anders and Ashleigh Creek in the top of the first inning set up the first scoring spurt for SCR-I. Anders stole third and came in to score on an error on the throw. After a walk to Stevi See, Khloe Hamlin delivered a clutch two-out, two-run base hit to make the score 3-0.
Creek kept the Harrisburg bats in check all evening, allowing just four base runners all evening.
SCR-I tacked on two more runs in the third inning. Creek led off with a base hit and courtesy runner Kilee Bradley-Robinson stole second. She came in to score when See reached on an error. See would later score on a wild pitch to push the lead to 5-0.
SCR-I would then put up a 12 spot in the top of the sixth inning, sending 18 batters to the plate, taking advantage of seven Harrisburg errors in a brutal inning that ultimately ended the game by the 10-run rule.
Anders had a triple and a base hit during the outburst. Khloe Hamlin and Kylee Stott added RBI hits.
Creek notched the shutout, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out nine.
Anders went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Creek was 2-3 with two walks and Hamlin went 2-4 with four RBIs while See was 2-3 with two walks and four runs scored.
Scotland County improved to 4-4 on the season with the win and remained atop the Lewis & Clark Conference standings with a perfect 4-0 league mark.
