Area veterans were treated to cookies and refreshments at the 12th annual Jauflione Chapter DAR Veterans’ Appreciation Event held Friday, November 6th in Memphis.

The 12th Annual Veteran’s Reception hosted by the Jauflione Chapter, DAR, honored 22 local veterans on November 6th in Memphis. The special emphasis for this year’s event was the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Regent June Kice welcomed the guests to the community hall at the Memphis HUD complex at 2 p.m. Dr. Harlo Donelson officially commenced the celebration, reciting “The Tattered Old Flag”.

For two hours, the ladies of the local DAR chapter, hosted the area soldiers, sailors and airmen and women, serving refreshments and encouraging the sharing of stories.

Each veteran shared information regarding his or her service time. Scrapbooks, medals and other keepsakes were displayed.

In addition to coffee, punch and home-made cookies, the DAR hosts also provide each veteran with a small gift to show the community’s  appreciation for their service.
