A huge second quarter helped Scotland County pull away from Milan and celebrate Courtwarming in style with a 73-53 victory over the Wildcats.
Will Fromm canned a three-pointer to start the game and Sturgis Knupp scored six straight points in the paint to help the Tigers take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first period.
Milan pulled within four points before Lane Pence drilled a three-pointer. Aaron Buford connected from behind the arc and scored on an offensive rebound to rebuild the lead to 22-10 early in the second period.
Caleb Doubet helped fuel the big second quarter scoring output. He scored on a back-door cut on a nice pass from Buford. The senior then sank a three- pointer and added pair of free throws as the Tigers pulled ahead 42-22 at the intermission.
Milan pulled within 47-31 before a 5-0 run by the Tigers. Knupp sank a pair of free throws and Pence scored on a penetration move before Elijah Cooley’s free throw made it 51-31.
Milan answered with a 5-0 run of its own before Caleb Doubet scored on the fast break to beat the buzzer and make the score 54-36 heading into the fourth period.
SCR-I closed out the game with a strong fourth period in the paint. Courtwarming King Zach Doubet scored on a pair of offensive rebounds. Fellow royalty candidate Sturgis Knupp ruled on the court. He closed out a huge night with six fourth quarter points before Grant Campbell put the icing on the cake with a three-pointer play to make the final score 73-53.
Scotland County improved to 12-5 on the season and 6-1 in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Knupp led the way with 20 points. Buford finished with 13 points while Caleb Doubet had 12 and Pence had 10.
