There will be a new sheriff in town next year in the Lewis & Clark Conference, as least as far as basketball is concerned.
Every single member of the recently announced 1st team all-conference basketball season will be graduating in May, meaning some new faces will be stepping up to lead their perspective teams in 2018-19.
Overall, 10 of the league’s top 12 players according to the coaches’ voting, were seniors and 14 of the 18 players honored in the league’s post season awards will be graduating.
That includes all six members of the L&C 1st team all conference. Cade Combs of Harrisburg topped the honor board, and was joined by teammate Cody Karl. Also earning first team honors were Blake Dawson of Fayette, Hayden Miller of Knox County, Gavin Ramsey of Salisbury and Lev Terrell of Marceline.
Garrett Fessler, a senior from Salisbury, topped the second team list. Scotland County’s Will Fromm was the first underclassman to crack the all-star ranks. He was joined by fellow junior Isaiah Estes of Fayette. Rounding out the second team all conference were seniors Lance Gladbach of Marceline, Ethan Sublett of Harrisburg, and Brett Miller of Paris.
Leading off the all-conference third team was Scotland County senior Lane Pence. Also named to the third team were Ben Miller, a junior from Westran; Vince Roberts, a junior from Fayette; Riley Veatch, a senior from Schuyler County; Avery Hammond, a senior from Westran; and Nickolas Edwards, a senior from Knox County.
Fayette was crowned the Lewis & Clark Conference champions, posting a 7-1 league mark before finishing 22-3 overall. Harrisburg (19-6) and Salisbury (17-8) tied for second with 6-2 conference records. Marceline (10-14) was fourth with a 5-3 mark followed by Scotland County (14-10), Knox County (9-16) and Paris (6-18) all tied with 3-5 conference records. Westran (7-18) finished eighth with a 2-6 conference record and Schuyler County (3-17) was 1-7.
