Racing will return to the Scotland County Speedway on Friday night as part of the 2016 Scotland County Fair.
The Friday night fair race is being sponsored by J&J AG of Memphis with added purses for all the classes. Race sponsors also include Walker Motors, Casey’s General Store, Helena and Oberholtzer Plumbing. The event is being organized by the Scotland County Fair Board and race promoter Mike VanGenderen.
The lineup will feature modifieds, stock cars, sport mods, hobby stocks, and sport compacts. The Lee County late models will also be running Friday night in Memphis.
There is no entry fee for drivers, with a top prize of $700 being paid for the modified winner, $600 for the late model, stock car and sport mod winners and $300 to the hobby stock victor and $200 to the sport compact winner.
Spectator entry to the fairgrounds is $15 and includes free access to the carnival as well as grandstand access. Pit pass prices are $12 for 14 and over and just $5 for 8 to 13 year olds.
Hot laps are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Motorsports will be featured again the following day as the Scotland County Fair will host the annual Mud Bogg at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Check-in starts at 10 a.m. for contestants wishing to take the challenge of the 150-foot long drag strip, hoping to outlast the two-feet deep pit of mud. A total of six classes will be offered allowing anyone to try their hand in the stock division while also providing some crowd pleasing horsepower in the open class with the winner decided by the distance they can travel before becoming stuck, or if they are really good, how fast they make it through the full length.
If that’s not enough revving engines for you, stick around for the fair finale, the 2016 Demolition Derby set to get underway at 7 p.m. on the race track. The event annual packs the grandstand. This year it is brought to you by Pepsi Cola of Memphis and McAfee & Hayes Auction Service.
