Hello!  My name is Erin Tallman, Elementary Principal at Scotland County R-I Elementary.   As the summer days fly by, we are busy gearing up for another great school year. Below are a few announcements and information for our parents and students.

School will begin on Monday, August 21st and will be dismissed at 1:05 p.m.  The elementary will host a “Back to School Barbeque and Open House” on Thursday, August 17th from 4-6 p.m.  Parents will have the opportunity to meet the elementary faculty.  If students would like to bring school supplies to their classrooms, please feel free to do so.  The principal, teachers, counselor, transportation director, school nurse, and secretaries will be available.  Lunch tickets can be purchased at this time. At 4:30 pm, there will be an informational meeting for anyone wanting more information about Title I in our school district. We will discuss topics such as what it means to be a school wide Title I school, who can receive Title I services, the difference between push in and pull out services and introducing our Title I staff.

Following the Open House, there will be a Parent meeting for all 5th and 6th grade students from 6:00-7:00 pm to discuss the new schedule and upcoming school year.

Pre-school will begin on Wednesday, August 23rd. Preschool staff will host an open house at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:30-7:00 pm. Students and parents may come to meet their teachers and visit their classrooms.

During the school day, students will be admitted to the building at 7:45 a.m. when the front doors are unlocked.  Drop off should only be at the front doors.  Students are sent to their classrooms or to breakfast at 7:50 a.m.  School begins at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m.  All exterior doors in the elementary will be locked from 8:20 a.m.-2:40 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.-7:45 a.m. for safety of our students and staff due to the operation of our security and camera system.  Therefore, all parents and guests will have to be buzzed into the building and then proceed to the elementary office to sign-in and you will receive a visitor’s pass.  After receiving your visitor’s pass, the office will direct you. We ask that you do not proceed to a classroom without a visitor’s pass and checking in first. If your child will need alternative transportation arrangements, we ask that you please call the office no later than 2:00 p.m.

Classroom assignments were mailed to parents and guardians on August 5th.  School supply lists are available at the Memphis Shop-Ko, Dollar General, Kirksville Wal-Mart, and posted on the Scotland Co. web page (www.scotland.k12.mo.us)

Again, I welcome everyone to our district and am looking forward to another amazing year! We have so much to be proud of! What a great time to be a Scotland County Tiger!  If you have any questions please feel free to call the elementary office at (660) 465-8532.
