Scotland County R-I graduate Megan Creek tossed a shutout February 22nd as the Culver-Stockton College softball team opened the 2017 season with a pair of victories.

The Wildcats opened the new campaign with victories over Trinity Christian College and Lindenwood University-Belleville in games played at Glenwood High School in Chatham, IL.

C-SC banged out nine hits and got a shutout from Creek in a 9-0 win in the opener over the Trolls. In game two, Sydney Williams was on base four times and McKena O’Donnell allowed just one run in the 9-1 victory over the Lynx.

In the opener, Cassie Burris put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a solo home run to lead off the second inning. Leah Luthenauer and Hannah Hollock added run-scoring singles to make it 3-0 before an error on a ball hit by Andrea Rains allowed two more runs to score to make it a five-run inning.

That is all Creek would need as she allowed just a leadoff single to the shortstop to start the game. Creek walked two and struck out two to earn the victory.

In the victory over Lindenwood, the Wildcats scored four unearned runs in the first inning en route to the rout of the Lynx. After a couple of errors helped keep the inning alive, Sydney Williams delivered the big blow when she drilled a bases-loaded triple down the right field line.

The Wildcats (2-0) return to action at the Gulf Shores Invitational March 3 when they face Brewton-Parker at 9 a.m. and the University of Mobile at 11 a.m. in Orangeville, AL.
