On Sunday, December 9 at 4:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, the Memphis Community Choir will present the Christmas Cantata, “When Earth Received Her King,” by Marty Parks. Lori Fulk is the Director of the 30-voice choir with Sarah Myers serving as the accompanist. Pastor Mary Lou Toft will serve as the narrator.
“When Earth Receives Her King” features new songs by Marty Parks along with favorite carols and select songs of the season. This musical proclaims the Birth of our King and the fulfillment of the promises it meant for people then and the hope it brings us now.
In addition to the cantata, the MUMC Hand Bell Choir will play. Schelle Cooley will sing a David Phelps solo entitled, “The End of the Beginning”.
The event will also feature three ensembles including a mixed ensemble singing a version of, “Mary Did You Know”, and a men’s ensemble performing a version of, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” with a four-hand piano accompaniment with Sarah Myers and Angela Westhoff at the piano. It combines the classic carol with Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite.” Finally, a Ladies’ ensemble will sing, “Grown-Up Christmas List,” which was a big hit for Amy Grant. This performance is one of the best the Community Choir has done.
We hope you will make plans now to share the music of the season with the Community Choir. A cookie reception will follow.
