Class of 1967 members Jan Slayton, Leslie Clark and Kathi Droege helped dedicate the new bench at the Scotland County Courthouse this week.

This year the Scotland County R-1 Class of 1967 held its 50 year high school reunion in Memphis during the Scotland County Antique Fair.

“During the reunion the class decided to initiate a donation program that would express our appreciation for the quality of our development years in the Memphis area and also would pay respect to those in our class who are deceased,” said class member Jim Woodsmall. “We refer to them as our Fallen Classmates.  More information regarding our Fallen Classmates has been published on Facebook”

Working with the County Commissioners, representatives of the class produced an idea for the first donation, which would be a memorial bench.  That bench has been purchased and placed in the Courthouse yard at a destination approved by the Commissioners.

Class members Jan Hendricker Slayton, Leslie Beeler Clark and Kathi Crook Droege were on hand for the bench’s placement and official dedication.

“The Commissioners have suggested that the Courthouse yard could also be improved by the addition of picnic tables,” said Woodsmall. “But they prefer that donations come from a broad base and not from just one class. It is my hope that by bringing publicity to what our class has done that other classes may join in.”
