The Board of the City of Downing convened at 6:00 p.m. on April 3, 2017 with Mayor Alan Garrett presiding. Present were Aldermen Dan Buford, Bill Anderson, and Rodney Newland. City Clerk, Carol Dyrden, and Water/Waste Water Operator, Larry Smith, were also present.
Copies of the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting, water/waste water report, deposits and disbursements and account balances were given to those present. Also, copies of qualifications for engineering firms and mowing bids were presented to the board members.
Mayor Alan Garrett called the meeting to order.
A motion to approve the agenda was made by Bill Anderson and seconded by Dan Buford. The motion carried unanimously.
A motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting was made by Rodney Newland and seconded by Bill Anderson. The motion carried unanimously.
A motion to approve the bills was made by Bill Anderson and seconded by Rodney Newland. The motion carried unanimously.
Water/Waste Water Report: Larry is working on the waste water to keep everything in compliance.
Street Maintenance: Larry received approval for rock and will be ordering rock soon for the streets, and he has some grates to clean out with all the rain debris gets them clogged up.
Cemetery: Received $100.00 from Ronald Martin’s family for burial.
Ordinances: Revised the ordinance for water deposits from $100.00 to $150.00.
Old or Unfinished Business: The board voted to hire an engineer for the water project. Rodney Newland made a motion to hire MECO. Bill Anderson seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously.
The board voted to hire a person to mow the cemetery. It was decided to hire Levi Woollums. Dan Buford made a motion and it was seconded by Bill Anderson. The motion carried unanimously.
The Board went into closed session at 7:10 and returned to open session at 7:20 p.m.
Complaints: It was reported the roads are getting bad.
A motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 was made by Bill Anderson and seconded by Dan Buford. The motion carried unanimously.
