Members of the newly reformed Troop 97 of the Boy Scouts are (L to R) Adam Slayton, Jacob McDaniel, Chayson Kleine, Jacob Kapfer and Mason Kliethermes.

For the first time in ten years Memphis has a Troop of Boy Scouts and they are ready to soar. Memphis Cub Scout Pack 97 recently bridged five young men into the Boy Scout program which led to the reactivation of Troop 97.  The Troop, which has dubbed themselves the “Burning Eagle Patrol” includes Scouts Jacob Kapfer, Adam Slayton, Chayson Kleine, Jacob McDaniel, and Mason Kliethermes.  Jessica Kliethermes, who has served as Cubmaster for eight years will be moving up to Scoutmaster with the boys.  She is being replaced as Cubmaster by Heidi Triplett and Cindy McDaniel who will share the responsibilities.

The boys are virtually starting the Troop from scratch as much of the Boys Scout equipment has been lost or misplaced over the years without a Boy Scout program intact to keep track of things.

“If anyone knows where any of the old Troop equipment is located, or if they have camping equipment they would like to donate to the Troop, they can contact myself or any of the Scouts,” stated Scoutmaster Kliethermes.

As part of the preparations for their first camp out, the boys recently received a donation from Scotland County Hospital, Scotland County EMS, and Air Evac Lifeteam of the supplies they will need for their individual First Aid Kits as well as their Troop First Aid Kit.

The Troop will be out and about in the community over the summer doing various fundraisers as well as several planned community service projects.
