What looked like a dominating was short-lived for Scotland County on Thursday night as Canton spoiled the SCR-I Senior Night, rallying for an 11-5 victory in the regular seasons softball finale in Memphis.
The Lady Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Katie Feeney led off with a base hit. Kaylyn Anders followed with a bunt single and an infield single by Stevi See loaded the bases. A walk to Khloe Hamlin plated the first run before Madie Bondurant delivered a three-run double to get SCR-I off to the great start.
Canton came right back in the top of the second. A pair of walks to start the inning came back to haunt SCR-I as Canton used back-to-back two-out singles to trim the deficit to 4-3.
An error in the top of the third allowed Canton to plate a run and knot the score at 4-4.
Canton completed the rally in the top of the fourth. Olivia Jarvis doubled in a run before Laken Hugenberg blasted a three-run homer to give the guests an 8-4 lead.
Three SCR-I errors in the top of the fifth allowed Canton to extend the lead to 11-4.
SCR-I put together a two-out rally in the sixth inning with back-to-back hits by Bondurant and Kaitlyn McMinn. Bondurant scored on a wild pitch to make the final score 11-5.
Canton put together 10 hits and three walks off SCR-I starter Ashleigh Creek, who surrendered 11 runs, seven earned in seven innings of work while striking out eight.
Bondurant led the offense, going 2-3 with three RBIs. McMinn went 2-3 at the plate as Canton starter Abbey Hultz held SCR-I to five hits and a pair of walks while fanning nine batters.
Scotland County dropped to 13-8 on the season with the loss.
