Five Lady Tigers Earn All-Conference Softball Honors

A runner-up finish in the Tri-Rivers Conference in 2013 helped five Lady Tigers lock down positions on the league's post-season awards teams.

Scotland County (4-1), which finished second in the TRCC behind undefeated Knox County, tied with the Eagles for the most spots on the all conference teams.

The Eagles pitcher claimed the league's most valuable player award. Lauren Dale, a junior, was named the TRCC MVP while Knox County leader Becky Barnhill was named the conference coach of the year.

Scotland County had two players earn first-team all-conference honors. Bethany Rader was honored after a solid season as the Tigers #1 hurler. She recorded a 0.76 ERA, throwing 101 innings and allowing just 56 hits while striking out 110 batters. The senior wasn't too shabby with the bat either, finishing her final season at SCR-I with a .473 batting average including four home runs and a team-high 26 RBIs. She struck out just twice in 65 plate appearances.

Sophomore Miranda Holland was the Lady Tigers leading hitter in 2013 helping her land first-team honors. The SCR-I center fielder led the Lady Tigers with a .534 batting average. She collected 31 hits in 58 trips to the plate, with 14 of those going for extra bases giving her a slugging percentage of 1.052. Holland was tops on the team in hits (31), doubles (6), home runs (5) and tied for the team high in RBI with 26.

Rounding out the TRCC first team were Caley Sessions (Sr.) and Laynee Schuber (Soph.) of Schuyler County; Paige Couch (Jr.) and Sarah Dooley (Sr.) of Knox County; Kaisee Perkins (Sr.) and Kennedy Childers (Fr.) of Putnam County; and Kylery Doak (Sr.) of Milan.

Scotland County had three players earn second-team all-conference honors.

Randi Slaughter was third on the team with a .371 batting average. The junior anchored the infield defense at the shortstop position. Slaughter led the Lady Tigers with seven stolen bases and was tops on the team with 24 runs scored.

Fellow juniors Olivia Harris and Brieanna Priebe also were recognized with second team honors. Harris was the top defensive catcher in the league and got the job done at the plate as well. She finished with a .367 batting average. Priebe batted .364 for the season and was tied for second on the team with four home runs. She also was among the team leaders with 22 RBI. Priebe was 3-0 as a pitcher, sporting a 0.72 ERA.
