Two Tiger Track Standouts Advance to State

Two Scotland County track athletes continued to shine, this time on the sectional stage, earning the right to advance to the Missouri Class 2 state track meet this weekend.
Zach Miller and Lucas Howard kept their track seasons alive by placing in the top four in two events each at the Class 2 Sectional 2 track meet held Saturday, May 11th in Boonville.
The duo had advanced to the regional showdown by placing in the top four at the district championships last week. Both athletes had top four finished in three separate events.
Miller qualified in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes while Howard moved on to compete at sectionals in the long jump as well as the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
Howard was the first to earn a state berth. The junior finished third in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.73 seconds. Marceline's Brennen Floray won the race in 15.5 seconds with Van Windsor of South Shelby in second in a time of 15.55 seconds. Also advancing to state was fourth place finisher Blake Cochran of Harrisburg.

Miller then punched his ticket with a dominating performance in the 100-meter dash. The senior won the race in a blazing time of 11.30 seconds. Jason Winters of Iberia was second in 11.37 seconds followed by John Loener of Fatima (11.43 seconds) and Mason Shoemaker of South Calloway (11.45 seconds).
Howard will also race at state in the 300-meter hurdles after taking second place in 41.63 seconds. Garrett Crouse of Eugene won the race in 41.15 seconds. Skyler Baird of South Shelby and Zane Lockhart of Paris also moved on to state.
Miller will be doubling up at state as well after finishing third in the 200-meter dash. He ran the race in 22.96 seconds finishing just behind Logan Prewitt of Clark County. Fatima's Loener won the race in 22.56 seconds. Mason Thompson of Milan took fourth to move on to state.
Howard finished seventh in the long jump at a distance of 19'5". Garner Rudroff of South Calloway won the event with a jump of 20' 7.7".
Miller finished eighth in the 400-meter dash. Prewitt won the race in 52.92 seconds, ahead of Laine Sly of Highland, Kyle Dudenhoeffer of Linn and Cory Hanger of South Calloway.
The two Tigers amassed 33 points to earn Scotland County 10th place overall. Fatima claimed the team title with 82 points and Monroe City was second with 63 points. Clark County finished fifth with 43 points behind first place finishes by Brandon Bourgeois and Lincoln Jones in the discus and shot put as well as Prewitt's win.
South Calloway won the girls team title with 82 points followed by Russellville, Palmyra, Fatima and Monroe City rounding out the top five.
