Miller Named Top League Performer Leading Tigers to Conference Crown

Zach Miller sprinted his way to the Tri-Rivers Conference track MVP honors at the league meet last week in Unionville.

Tri-Rivers Conference foes will be glad to bid farewell to senior Zach Miller. The SCR-I standout was voted the most outstanding athlete at the 2013 conference track meet held April 30th in Unionville, after claiming victory in four events. Those 40 points played a key role in the Tigers team total of 163 that earned SCR-I the conference crown.

The Tigers held off North Shelby which finished second with 154.5 points and Milan with 137.5 points. Knox County (65 points) was fourth followed by Putnam County (63) and Schuyler County (52).

Miller won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.43 seconds. Milan's Mason Thompson was second in 11.65 seconds.

He took top honors in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.80 seconds, again holding off Milan teammates Thompson and Caleb May who finished second and third.

The 400-meter dash was the next on the list for Miller and his time of 54.19 seconds was nearly two full seconds better than runner-up Michael Orr from North Shelby.

Miller finished off his dominating day with a top finish in the long jump, reaching 20' 1.25 inches.

The Tigers could have the top conference athlete again next year if Lucas Howard follows up his 2013 performance.

The junior finished second in the long jump at a distance of 19' 3".

He finished atop the leader board in the rest of his events, taking first place in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles before besting the field in the triple jump to earn a combined 38 points for SCR-I.

Randan Kraus finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles.

Zach Doubet led three Tigers finishing in the points in the 1,600 meter run. The freshman finished second with teammates Morgan Cartlon and Zach Curry claiming fifth and eighth respectively. Doubet finished third in the 800-meter run with Joseph Hite in sixth. Curry took third in the 3,200 meter run.

Chris Jackson finished fourth in the 400-meter dash and Caleb Doubet was fifth in the triple jump.

Bailey Johnston took fourth place in the discus. He earned fifth place points in the shot put and was fifth overall in the high jump.

The Tigers 4x400-meter relay team of Z. Doubet, Terence Durham, C. Doubet and Jackson took second place. The 4x800 relay team of Kraus, Durham, Jackson and Hite was third.

SCR-I finished fourth in the 4x200 relay. Runners were C. Doubet, Johnston, Jackson and Durham. The 4x100 relay team of Brendan Orton, Evan Hager, C. Doubet and Kraus finished sixth.
