Cowell Qualifies for State Golf Sectional
The season will continue for one Scotland County golfer. Brice Cowell carded a 101 on Monday at the Kirksville Country Club in the District Golf Tournament, qualifying to move on to the Sectional event to be held May 6th in Moberly.
The Tigers competed against golfers from La Plata, Putnam County, Marceline, Schuyler County, Salisbury, Milan, South Shelby, Canton, Cairo and Westran for the chance to advance to sectionals, where they will try to make the cut for the state golf tourney.
Marceline won the Class 1 District 4 team title, shooting a 350. Salisbury will also advance to sectionals as a team, scoring a 362 for runner-up honors.
La Plata finished third as a team with a 375 followed by Putnam County (381), Schuyler County (421) and Milan (426). Scotland County finished seventh overall with a team score of 436. The Tigers finished ahead of Cairo (438), Westran (439), South Shelby (439) and Canton (598).
Cowell was among the top 25 individual performers, earning the right to advance to sectionals. His round of 101 was tied for 21st overall.
Grant Gregory of La Plata was the district medalist, shooting an 81, one stroke better than Putnam County's Cody Quint. Austin Wyatt of Salisbury carded an 83 to finish third with Marceline teammates Brett McGlothlin and Tucker Dunham rounding out the top five with scores of 84 and 85 respectively.
Freshman Austin Howes shot a 109 to finish 30th overall for Scotland County. Dakota Elliott carded a 113 as did Logan Remley. Tyler Small carded a 127.
