Tigers Dominate Former Conference Rivals at Track Meet

Lucas Howard clears the final hurdle on his way to victory in the 100-meter hurdles race at the Putnam County track meet on Friday in Unionville.

For years Scotland County battled Brookfield and Clark County for bragging rights in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Even after the two bigger schools left several years ago to join the Clarence Cannon Conference, the rivalry remains intact.

The Tigers got one-up on the former TRC members, amassing 127 points at the Marcus Hounsom Relays hosted by Putnam County on April 27th in Unionville. SCR-I finished ahead of all current and past TRC members, finishing second to Trenton's 187 points. Clark County was third with 92.5 points followed by Brookfield (72.5), Milan (57), Putnam County (47), Schuyler County (43), Knox County (22) and Novinger (20).

Zach Miller sprinted to victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. He clocked an 11.52 second run in the 100-meter dash to hold off Clark County's Logan Prewitt. The senior bested Trenton's Sam Cool in the 200-meter dash by half a second, crossing the finish line in 23.88 seconds. Miller didn't stop there, he went on to win the long jump with a mark of 20' 1.5" and took second place in the 400-meter dash.

Lucas Howard also played a big role in the Tigers huge team score. The junior won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.64 seconds, more than a second and a half ahead of runner up Dalton Ellis of Trenton. Howard then took top honors in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 43.44 seconds. Teammate Randan Kraus finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles and took eighth in the 110-meter hurdles.

Howard made it three victories on the day by claiming the top distance in the triple jump at 38' 7.5 inches. He picked up second place points in the long jump with a leap of 19' 6.25".

Zach Doubet finished fourth in the 800-meter run and was third in the 1,600-meter run with teammate Morgan Carlton in sixth. Carlton finished fourth in the 3,200 meter run ahead of teammate Zach Curry in fifth.

Chris Jackosn finished seventh in the 400-meter dash. Bailey Johnston was seventh in the high jump and the discus. Zach Doubet was eighth in the high jump.

The Tigers 4x100 relay team of Brendan Orton, Evan Hager, Terence Durham and Caleb Doubet finished fifth. The 4x200 relay team of Kraus, Jackson, C. Doubet and Johnston was sixth.

In the 4x400 meter relay, SCR-I runners Jackson, C. Doubet, Z. Doubet and Durham took fourth place.
