Lady Tigers Rally to Claim Key Conference Win
For three quarters, North Shelby looked like it would pick up a key conference victory, out playing Scotland County for the first 24 minutes of play in Shelbyville on February 12th.
But the fourth quarter was all SCR-I. The Lady Tigers erased a seven-point deficit with a huge final period to post the 46-44 win.
Scotland County was unable to find any offense early on. North Shelby held the Lady Tigers to just two field goals in the opening eight minutes to build an 11-4 advantage.
Jessica Morrow and Bethany Rader each had a pair of field goals in the second quarter but it wasn't enough to prevent the Raiders from extending the margin to 22-14 at the intermission.
Rader and Megan Creek each had five points in the third period but North Shelby still led 31-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
Randi Slaughter fueled the rally. She canned a three-pointer and was a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line, scoring all nine of her points in the game's final eight minutes.
The free throw line proved to be the difference. North Shelby made just four of 11 from the charity stripe down the stretch. Slaughter's performance helped SCR-I shoot 7-12 at the free throw line down the stretch. But a couple misses on the front end of the one and one left the door open for North Shelby to come back.
SCR-I sealed the deal with a pair of baskets by Morrow, improving to 18-5 on the season and 6-3 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
Rader led all players in scoring with a season-high 17 points. Slaughter and Creek each finished with nine points and Morrow added eight points.
Elizabeth Linberger led North Shelby in scoring with 14 points.
