Big Third Quarter Leads SCR-I Past Canton
A huge third period helped Scotland County pull away from Canton on Tuesday night in the Lady Tigers first game action in more than a week.
SCR-I jumped ahead 9-2 in the first period. Megan Creek had a pair of field goals and Randi Slaughter hit a three-pointer to generate the early lead.
The visitors cooled off a bit in the second period. The lone field goals of the eight minute stretch were provided by senior Katie Howard. Fortunately both were from behind the arc, allowing Scotland County to hold on to a 15-9 lead at the intermission.
Switching ends of the court appeared to have been the magic touch, as the offense was rolling coming out of halftime. Hailey Dial and Alexis Dodge each hit three-pointers. Creek and Bethany Rader added a pair of field goals each in the paint. Howard and Slaughter got into the act as well as Scotland County surpassed its combined first half totals of made shots in the third period. That helped Scotland County extended the margin to 33-16.
That was more than enough as SCR-I held Canton to just two points in the fourth period to secure the 38-18 victory.
Scotland County improved to 15-5 on the season with the victory. Creek led the way with 10 points. Rader finished with nine points and Howard had eight points. Canton was led in scoring by Courtney Baalman with 12 points.
