Canton Tops Tigers 78-44 in Non-Conference Battle
After waiting nearly a week for its next game action, Scotland County appeared a bit rusty coming out of the gates on Monday night in Canton. The same could not be said for the home team. Canton jumped out to a 30-13 first period lead and never looked back in handing the Tigers a 78-44 defeat.
Scotland County was unable to slow down Canton in the opening eight minutes, falling behind by 17 points despite eight points from Lucas Howard. Canton used a well-balanced attack to build the big lead, with six different players getting into the scorebook.
That was the theme all night as five Canton players ended the night in double digits for scoring.
The SCR-I defense clamped down in the second period, holding Canton to just 10 points. But SCR-I was unable to take advantage of the stops, producing just eight points of their own to trail 40-21 at the intermission.
Canton hit the throttle again in the third period, outscoring SCR-I 24-8 to blow the game open.
SCR-I bombed away from three-point land in the final period. Brice Cowell hit a pair of three-pointers and Jacob Blessing and Chris Jackson also connected from behind the arc but it wasn't nearly enough as Canton closed out the 78-44 win.
Cameron Durst led all scorers with 16 points for Canton. David McRenalds added 15 points for the winners.
Howard led Scotland County (9-11) in scoring with 12 points. Cowell finished with 10 points.
