Raiders Bounce Tigers to Consolation Bracket
North Shelby poured in 16 points in the first period of Tuesday night's opening round game against Scotland County, and that number held up for more than 24 minutes thanks to a rough night of shooting for Scotland County.
The Tigers were bounced into the consolation bracket of the North Shelby Tournament courtesy of a 51-30 defeat at the hands of the host team.
Bailey Johnston had a pair of field goals and Kyler Burkhiser and Chris Jackson each added a bucket in the game's first minutes. But North Shelby doubled that output and led 16-8 at the end of one period of play.
SCR-I struggled over the next two periods to match that total. The Tigers managed just three points in the second period, a basket by Brice Cowell and a free throw by Lucas Howard.
The Raiders on the other hand, exploded for 24 points to blow the game open. Michael Orr, Dylan Mettes and Lucas Daniel all hit three pointers and Alan Trenhaile added six points during the key run for the Raiders.
The offense remained in the locker room for Scotland County, as the Tigers managed just five points in the third period and trailed 48-16 with just eight minutes to play.
Jacob Blessing and Cordie Kigar connected on three-pointers in the final period and Brice Cowell had a pair of field goals to help trim the deficit but North Shelby rolled to the 51-30 win to improve to 7-7 on the season.
No Scotland County player had more than six points, as the Tigers fell to 5-8 on the season.
