ZELMA EUGENIA CURRY

Newberg, OR resident, Zelma Eugenia (Rush) Curry died September 18, 2013. She was 101 years old.
Zelma was born October 24, 1911 in Scotland County, MO to Ed and Beulah Rush. She was the eldest of six children.
In 1926 Zelma moved to Memphis, MO to live with her maternal grandparents while attending high school. She graduated from high school in 1929, graduated from the teachers' college in Kirksville, MO, and taught in rural school for seven years.
On May 13, 1934, she married Clark Curry. They eventually moved to Oregon and settled in Newberg to raise their family. Zelma and Clark had three daughters, Carla, Cathie, and Jan. Zelma worked in the cafeteria at Central School until Clark passed away in 1967. She accepted the position as District Cafeteria Supervisor and served in that capacity until she retired. Zelma was also a member of the Grace Baptist Church, an avid quilter, and she restored old furniture.
The last 25 years of Zelma's life were spent at Friendsview Retirement Community. She is survived by daughters Carla Herring, her husband Keith and son Brian, of Tualatin, Cathie Rawlings, her husband Jim and their children Chris and Jennifer, of Portland, and Janelle Gilmore, and her husband Les and son Rudy, of Madras; brother James Rush of Arizona; sister Verlee Ray of Georgia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Lewis and Stan Rush; sister Jo Baird; and both parents.
