LARRY E. PERRY
(8/1/1938 - 3/24/2013)

Larry E. Perry, age 74, of Luray, MO, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 24, 2013, in the emergency room of Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.

Larry was born August 1, 1938 in Luray, MO, a son of Leo W. and Edna Newnham Perry.

He was united in marriage to Vivian Linquist on November 6, 1960 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian, of the home; one son, Christopher Perry of Shawnee, KS; two daughters, Constance (Mrs. Robert) Parker of Columbia, MO and Jennifer Graf of Richardson, TX; six grandchildren: Timothy Philp, Meghan Perry, Alex and Kyle Graf and Taylor and Casey Parker; two brothers, Dennis Perry of Wyaconda, MO and Darrell Perry of Kahoka, MO; brother-in-law, Leland (Karen) Linquist of Keokuk, IA; as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry was a 1956 graduate of Kahoka High School. He was a retired Navy veteran, serving 20 years from 1957 thru 1977. He was a crew member and plank holder of the U.S.S. Sacramento when it was commissioned and crew member of the U.S.S. Morton at its recommissioning. The next 24 years he was employed by Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA where he was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local 444.

Larry's military career was an integral part of his life and character. He was proud to serve his country, making sure the U.S. and Navy flags flew in his yard and were in good condition. He was part of a group of fellow navy retirees who supported the restoration of the L.S.T., a World War II ship which transported jeeps and other military vehicles to the Normandy invasion, returning with wounded veterans. He and Vivian enjoyed attending reunions with fellow shipmates throughout the United States. He could always be counted on to serve in the color guard at the graveside of fellow veterans during local military funerals, regardless of the weather.

Larry loved maintaining his garden and woodworking. He was a charter member of the Fox Valley Two-Cylinder Club and member of the John Deere National Two-Cylinder Club. He was also a John Deere toy collector.

Larry looked forward each day to getting together with friends at the local coffee shops where he gave the help a hard time. He hated to miss his 4 p.m. iced tea and grilled cheese at Cookies at the "liars table". He dearly loved his family and looked forward to visits from his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Special music was "Navy Hymn", "There is a Day" and "Anchors Aweigh".

Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Perry, Darrell Perry, Robert Lipper, Bill Grimes and J. D. White.

Pallbearers were Tim Philp, Alex Graf, Kyle Graf, Taylor Parker, Wes Perry and Jack March.

Burial and full military honors were held 3 p.m. Friday at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.

Memorials were suggested to the Kahoka Cemetery.
