JOSEPHINE PLENGE GRAF

Josephine Plenge Graf, 108, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away Sunday night March 3, 2013, at Scotland County Hospital.
The daughter of Samuel Lynn and Lula Gregory Hume, Josephine was born June 30, 1904 in Clark County, Missouri. She graduated from Kahoka High School in 1923 and taught school until her marriage to Edwin H. Plenge of Clark County, Missouri on June 15, 1927. They moved to Memphis and became parents of Anna Lynn, Jean, and Robert. Edwin preceded her in death December 31, 1951, and Josephine returned to college to earn a teacher's degree.
She taught in rural Scotland County and then at Scotland County R-I. In 1966, she moved to Hazelwood, Missouri and taught Junior High for two years. In July of 1966 she and Chris Graf, originally of Clark County Missouri, were married. His home was in Western Springs, Illinois, where they had almost twenty years together. Josephine was a member of Chapter JY, P.E.O., and Past Worthy Matron of Carter Chapter #107, Order of the Eastern Star. She was last a member of the Church of the Shepherd, United Methodist Church, St. Charles, Missouri.
Josephine is survived by her children, Anna Lynn Kirkpatrick and her husband Lynn, Jean (Henner) Plenge, and Robert Plenge and his wife Carol; eight grandchildren, David and Mary Ann Kirkpatrick, Lynnette and Jeff Dyer, and Philip Kirkpatrick, all of Memphis, Kim (Henner) and Rick Kindler of Kansas City, Missouri, Lisa (Henner) and Mike Thelen of St. Charles, Missouri, Jill (Henner) and Mike Schlueter of Wellsville, Missouri, Laurie (Plenge) and David Dreesen of Austin, Texas, and Robby Plenge of Austin, Texas; eight great-grandchildren: Julie Freburg, Michael Freburg and his wife Lindsey, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Andrea Kirkpatrick, Kyle Thelen, Brittany Thelen, Amanda Schlueter and Chase Schlueter, all out of the area; step-children: Janet (Graf) and Alan Ralph, Rich Graf and Charlene, seven step-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, Missouri. Pastor David Howlett of the Memphis United Methodist Church officiated. Joan Hinds provided musical selections and Mrs. Teresa Cotton was soloist. Inurnment followed at the Memphis Cemetery.
