SANFORD LEE ROBERTS

Sanford L. Roberts, 79, of Lebanon, ME died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Hyder Family Hospice House.
He was born July 10, 1933 in Kirksville, MO, the son of Wallace Roberts and Dorothy (Myers) Roberts.
Sanford (known by Sandy) along with his brother Tom, first worked for his father at the Memphis Democrat newspaper. After graduating from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1955, he went to work as an electrical engineer for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation. While there he worked on the Mercury, Gemini, and Skylab space programs and the F4, F15, and F18 military fighters until he retired in 1993. He was an avid lover of Lionel Trains both collecting and repairing them and loved his chocolate chip ice cream.
He is survived by his wife Judith (Savard) Roberts; a son Lee Roberts and his wife Christina of Marshfield, MO and their children Nicholas and Natalie; a daughter June Roberts of Cedar Hill, MO; five stepchildren, James Towle Jr. and his wife Pam and children Jamen, Casey, and Dan, Kimberly Towle, Jonathan Towle and his wife Cathy and children Joseph and Lindsay, Diana Towle-Speidel and her husband Mark and children Nicole and Edward, Mary Towle-McKenney and children Taylor, Spencer, and Reegan, all of Dover, NH; and a brother Thomas R. Roberts and his wife Linda of Berwick, ME.
He was predeceased by both his parents.
A time of visiting was held Saturday, February 16, followed by the funeral service at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, ME. Burial will be in the spring.
