Timber Ridge Golf Course Holiday Raffle Underway
One lucky winner will take home $1,000 and in the process raffle participants will be helping keep the improvements coming at Timber Ridge Golf Course. The club's membership is undertaking the holiday fundraiser to help finance planned upgrades for 2014 at the Memphis facility.
Board President Kris Lister said the money has been earmarked for course and equipment improvements, pointing out that the golf course is maintained with some equipment that is more than 30 years old. "We've been making improvements but it seems to be a never ending battle," he said.
While the war continues, 2013 was filled with several victories for the club. More than 150 tons of rock were placed on the course's cart paths and the parking lot. One of the main course water pumps was rebuilt and one of the main mower head was refurbished. An additional mower was purchased along with additional mower heads.
Special donations and volunteer labor allowed the course to remove brush and cut down several dead trees with many more trees planted in their place.
"With these improvements and the constant work on the tee boxes and greens, we feel that Timber Ridge is becoming one of the best small courses around," Lister said. "We had golfers from outside the community this fall say that our greens were some of the best in the state."
The board highlighted the success of the J & J Ag Day Tourney. The huge fundraiser helped close out the year with a needed financial infusion thanks to the efforts of the event sponsor and other donors, participants and volunteers.
"This tournament has become a financial savior for the course," Lister said.
To assist in the fundraising efforts, the raffle kicked off in December. Members each have five tickets to sell for $20. Tickets will be turned in by January 3rd when the winner will be announced following the January TRGC board meeting.
