Chamber Kicks Off Holiday Season
Despite frigid conditions, the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off the holiday shopping season on Saturday night with the traditional lighting of the square.
Memphis Mayor William Reckenberg threw the switch at dusk, igniting the Christmas decorations that adorn the square, courtesy of the Chamber. The group debuted new blue lights that spiral around all of the light poles on the courthouse lawn, a look that was well received by the large crowd that braved the low temperatures.
Guests were treated to music by the Brothers and Sisters Quartet and also were visited by Santa Claus and even had the chance to take camel rides. The lure of drawings for $500 in Memphis Bucks helped keep the crowd warm.
The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce gave away the gift certificates in varying increments to twenty lucky winners. The $250 grand prize went to Elaine Burkholder. Rosemary Briggs won $50. Twenty dollar winners were Landon King, Teresa Fischer, Phoebe Douglas, Judy Musgrove, Beth Dalton, Jim McClintic, Lisa Baker, Laura Schenk, Susan Brown and Ella Owings. Memphis Bucks $10 winners included Kara Romore, Vicki Baldwin, Joe Rinearson, Rachel Reckenberg, Jeannie Parrish, Kim Smith, Celia Brown, Alyssa Clair and Wendy Davis.
