Stalking Charges Filed in Repeated Littering Case
A Memphis man is facing stalking charges following a recent investigation into repeated littering at a Scotland County residence.
According to court documents, Shane C. Wilson, 39, has been charged with the class A misdemeanor of stalking. The charge claims that Wilson repeatedly and purposely harassed Jerry Reese by repeatedly throwing trash on property owned and occupied by Reese resulting in financial loss and substantial emotional stress for the property owner and his family.
The incidents allegedly occurred between October 7, 2012 and May 2, 2013.
The probable cause statement completed by investigators indicated that Wilson was believed to have been responsible for at least 65 incidents of littering during the time period.
Investigators initially identified a suspect in the case from evidence left in the litter. Subsequent eye-witness accounts, as well as video surveillance, ultimately led the Scotland County Sheriff's office to perform surveillance at the site, which is located on Highway 15 south of Memphis near the Route W junction.
That resulted in a traffic stop of Wilson on May 2, after the officer allegedly witnessed litter thrown from the vehicle onto the Reese property.
Wilson is scheduled to be arraigned October 8th in the Scotland County Associate Circuit Court at 9 a.m.
