2013 Antique Fair Will Honor Our Veterans
Food, fun and fond memories... all will be had in plenty this week as the 2013 Scotland County Antique Fair opens in Memphis.
While local history continues to be the underlying premise, the theme of this year's five-day agenda is Honoring Our Veterans. Servicemen and women, past and present will be honored throughout the events.
While soldiers will be the theme, babies will take center stage on Thursday night. The annual contest will start at 6 p.m. and will also feature the coronation of the 2013 Antique Fair Queen and King. The youth prince and princess will be named to conclude the baby show. But the fun won't end there. Mystery Train will take the stage at 8 p.m. for a concert and street dance. The Antique Fair Association will announce the winner of a $100 raffle drawing at 10 p.m. to cap off the night. The Rotary Bingo tent will open for action on Thursday as well.
Food stands and vendors will be open all day on Friday, along with the Downing House and Wiggins Family Tractor museums will be open.
Winners in the window display contest will be named at 5:30 p.m. prior to the Show-Me Dog Club demonstration that will happen at 6 p.m. The small engine and tractor judging will be completed that evening prior to Silverado taking the stage for an 8 p.m. performance and street dance. Friday will mark night two of the Association's $100 giveaways, with the winner drawn at 10 p.m.
Saturday will get an early start with the fire department's annual breakfast at the fire station starting at 6 a.m. The 6th annual 5K fun run and walk will commence at 8 p.m., leaving from the east side of the square.
The 2013 Antique Fair Parade will start at 10 a.m. on the square. Following the completion, Rotary will have its famous barbecue available as well as refreshments and dining opportunities provided by numerous other vendors.
The car show will begin at 12:30 on the west and south sides of the square. The east side of the square will host the kiddie tractor pull at 1 p.m. Additional activities on Saturday afternoon include the Farm Bureau Cake Walk, a tractor poker run and tractor games.
Saturday night's concert will feature Lonesome Fugitive. Two $100 raffle winners will be drawn Saturday night.
Sunday morning will feature the antique tractor pull at the fairgrounds at 10 a.m. A fly-in dinner will be held at the Briggs-Smith Memorial Airport at 11 a.m. with plane rides offered all day.
