Sister Act Crowned Winners of Fair's Country Showdown
Sisters Megan Hamilton and Shelby Westhoff sang their way to a win at the 2013 County Showdown at the Scotland County Fair.
The sister act of Megan and Shelby took top honors at the 32nd Annual Texaco Country Showdown sponsored by KMEM 100.5 FM radio station at the 2013 Scotland County Fair on Wednesday, July 10th.
Aspiring country music performers from across the region got the chance to take the stage in the fair grandstands to entertain the crowd and compete for the right to advance to the contest's state level.
Shelby Westhoff and Megan Hamilton were tabbed by the four-judge panel as the contest's top performers.
They outlasted five other acts to take home the top prize of $100.50 from KMEM. More importantly the duo will now move on to sing at the state competition on September 6th in Boonville.
Last year's showdown winner, Drew Miller, was back on stage, this time as part of a musical trio with his sister Natalie, and cousin Tristen Thrailkill, from Queen City, MO. The group, Swift Kick, took second place in the contest.
Local singers Kiley Lewis and Paige McClamroch tied for third place.
Each year, more than 50,000 contestants compete in as many as 450 local, state, and regional live shows held throughout the country.
Shelby and Megan will now be in the running for the state title, the $1,000 top prize and the opportunity to compete in one of five regional events. Regional winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Finals to compete for $100,000 and the coveted title, "Best New Act in Country Music".
The showdown was sponsored by Buddy's Place in Lancaster; fredWRECKS Collision Repair in Memphis; Steve's Family Dining and the Exchange Bank in Kahoka; Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone Company in Green City, Missouri, and Cantril Feed and Grain in Cantril, Iowa.
