Saturday Sale Will Support 2013 Scotland County Fair Exhibitors
The 2013 Scotland County Fair kicked off Monday evening with the Junior Horse Show. The fair will feature swine and sheep shows on Thursday with a tractor pull at 7:30 p.m. in the grandstands. Friday's schedule includes the junior beef show with a rodeo that evening. Saturday will be highlighted by a mud bog as well as the Pepsi Cola Demolition Derby.
Bird feeders, beef cows and everything in between will be up for sale to the highest bidder on Saturday at the conclusion of the 4-H and FFA portion of the 2013 Scotland County Fair.
The annual Scotland County Junior Livestock and Projects Sale will be held Saturday, July 13th starting at 9:00 a.m. A number of champions from the various livestock shows will be up for grab along with a large number of other livestock exhibits, not to mention crafts and other projects shown by 4-H members.
The entire sale will be held in the fairgrounds cattle barn. Exhibitors will enter the arena one-by-one to display their sale item with bidders vying for the right to purchase the animal or craft project.
Beef will sell first, followed by sheep and wool, other animals, goats and art hall projects, with swine closing out the sale.
Sponsors establish a floor price for the livestock, with buyers either choosing to pay the total bid price for outright ownership of the animal, or they can chose to only pay the difference above the floor price, surrendering the animal to be sold at market.
"If you want to support the exhibitors, but do not want to purchase an entire animal, the superintendents can make arrangements to pool your donation with others toward the purchase of an animal or an item," said Scotland County 4-H Youth Program Assistant Pat Wiggins.
Typically the event also features the opportunity to have sale animals transported to the locker for processing.
The sale is open tot he public and area merchants and fair boosters are encouraged to attend and support the 2013 fair exhibitors.
Lunch will be provided by the exhibitors for all buyers following the auction.
