Three winners were announced on December 12th for Green America’s quarterly “People & Planet Award”, which recognizes America’s best green, small businesses. Each of three winners will receive $5,000. The winners are: Milkweed Mercantile, Rutledge; Greenway Transit, Durham, NC; and Bio-Beetle Eco Rental Cars, Kahului, HI. Winners were selected by the public during a month-long open voting period online at Green America’s website.

Scotland County Farmers Eligible for Aid Under USDA Drought Disaster Designation
JEFFERSON CITY – Drought-stricken farmers in 27 Missouri counties are eligible for federal assistance after the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a primary natural disaster area designation, Gov. Jay Nixon said. The designation this week from USDA Secretary Vilsack is for 14 counties that have suffered either extreme or exceptional drought, or have suffered severe drought for more than eight weeks. An additional 13 Missouri counties have been designated as contiguous disaster counties.
