A huge fourth quarter by Jessica Morrow helped Scotland County turn what had been a one-point game for three quarters into a key conference victory. The Lady Tigers outscored Milan 19-11 in the final period to post the 56-47 victory.
Bethany Rader had a pair of field goals in the game's first eight minutes and Megan Creek hit a three pointer as SCR-I went on top 9-8.
The two teams traded baskets in the second period. Morrow had six points and Katie Howard added five points, including a three-pointer. But Milan matched SCR-I's scoring to trail 26-25 at the intermission.
That was the case in the third quarter as well.
Howard again connected from behind the arc as did Randi Slaughter. Rader added a couple baskets in the paint, but the Lady Tigers couldn't shake Milan, who matched the offense point for point.
Scotland County was finally able to pull away down the stretch. Slaughter hit from behind the arc and added another field goal, but it was a big fourth quarter by Morrow that put SCR-I over the top. The senior forward coverted four field goals in the games final eight minutes en route to a season high 16 points to lead all scorers.
With the victory, Scotland County improved to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
Hannah Sanders led all scorers with 21 points for Milan.
Morrow led SCR-I with 16 points. Rader added 14 points and Howard finished with 10 points. Slaughter pitched in with eight points.
