Rematch Favors Knox County Again, as Eagles Eclipse Tigers 52-16

The sequel is rarely as good as the original, and that definitely was the case on Friday night in Memphis, as Knox County demolished Scotland County 52-16 in the two teams' second meeting of the season.

Earlier in the year, Knox had eaked out a 14-8 win over the Tigers in Edina, leaving hope that the home field advantage might turn things around for the Tigers.

That definitely was not the case as the Eagles soared into Memphis and dominated the contest, racking up more than 500 yards of total offense to improve to 5-2 on the year and 2-1 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

Knox County took a 32-0 lead before halftime. Kellen Gillaspy had a huge night. After the Tigers initial drive stalled near midfield, the Eagles took over and quickly put points on the board with a scoring drive capped off by a 10-yard TD run by Gillaspy. The two-point conversion made it 8-0.

The first of two interceptions on the night, led to the Eagles second scoring opportunity. This time Gillaspy scored from 21-yards out to make it 16-0 after the two-point conversion.

Scotland County was unable to get on track on offense for much of the first three quarters.

The Eagles on the other hand scored on their first four possessions. Quarterback Donovan Edwards had a rushing TD before Gillaspy found the end zone for the third time in the first half.

Edwards extended the lead to 38-0 with a touchdown run on the opening drive of the third period that made the score 38-0.

Gillaspy scored his fourth touchdown as the third period wound down.

Scotland County finally got on the scoreboard with 9:55 left in the fourth period when William McRobert found the end zone.

Knox County came right back with another score of its own, this time a 17-yard TD run by Andrew Holden.

SCR-I made some excitement late in the contest. Zach Miller scooped up a fumbled pitch and ran it 85 yards for the TD with less than three minutes to play, to make the final score 52-16.

Miller finished with 90 yards and a TD on three carries. McRobert ran the ball nine times for 55 yards and a score. Cordie Kigar had 22 yards on three carries. He was two for seven passing with two interceptions. The Tigers dropped to 1-6 and 1-2 in the TRC.

Edwards finished with 195 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Gillespie had 141 yards on 19 carries. Holden ran the ball six times for 76 yards.
